Week of April 27 - May 1

Keyboarding Practice

Games are a fun way to practice typing. I have provided a few links for you that should be fun to play, and will provide good practice.

The home row keys are where you place your fingers when you are learning to type. The home row keys are a good place to start while typing because they are in the center of the keyboard.

Typing Tips:

  • Your fingers should rest on home row.

  • Focus on accuracy! Don't worry about speed, speed will come with practice.

  • Good posture helps with keyboarding.

  • Try not to look at the keyboard while typing.

  • Relax your fingers.

  • If your fingers get tired, take a break and stretch your fingers. (finger gymnastics)

  • Your fingers should hit a key squarely in the center.

  • Keep wrists straight and fingers curved.

On TypeTastic! you can pick different levels based on your ability. Click on the orange "Start Learning" button and select "Upper Elementary" or "Middle & High School".

No need to sign up for an account on NitroType, just hit the red "Race as Guest" button.

The website KidzType has a variety of games to play. Dance Mat has been a favorite by many students.

Try this words per minute (WPM) typing test for kids (Room Recess). Test your Speed & Accuracy. *Challenge: My 13 year old daughter scored 12055 on speed & accuracy...see if you can beat her score ☺

Happy Typing!

Week of April 20-24

Hello, 3rd through 5th grade friends!
I hope everyone is doing well and staying safe. I have heard so many positive stories about many of you. I'm proud of the way that each of you is carrying on! Many of you have donated time to helping others in the community. Many of you have helped around the house by doing extra chores. Many of you are determined to stay current in academics by spending time each day working. Keep up all the great work!

I understand that WiFi and access to technology can be challenging and sometime, not available. Please know that these enrichment activities are not mandatory but something to keep you engaged while you are at home.

Earth Day is Wednesday, April 22. Let's celebrate Earth Day by exploring NatGeo@HomeNat Geo Kids, and National Geographic Kids websites. You'll find educational articles, games, videos, quizzes, science experiments and more. You can "read", "watch", or "play", depending on the activity you select.

I hope these enrichment activities bring a bit of happiness to your day and I hope to see all of you soon. Have fun exploring and happy EARTH DAY!
